METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a gooey and sticky mess. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Then we slide the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we don’t use very high pressure because that will sometimes damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than needed to clean concrete. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our chewing gum removal professional.
